It's Overture Hosted By Voidstar Runner More About Our Featured Artists in the Gallery: Danielle Griepp's photography is dynamic, depictive, and elegant, much like Danielle herself. She'll be showing works from several subjects, and I'm personally looking forward to all of it. Vincent Li is a journalist at large, documenting the strange beauties of contemporary urban life with a steady lens and a masterful sensibility. He captures the fleeting moments of stillness that sometimes suddenly grip the city, and has been kind enough to select a set of the same for our delectation. Meg Rorison's photography and sketches are intricate yet straightforward as a punch in the gut, evoking complicated feelings with profound compositions and meditations on form. Her art is a lucky find, and you'll see why at the show. And Our Featured Acoustic Performers: Alexa Woodward performs beautiful original songs and arrangements on banjo & guitar, with profound lyrics exploring faith, world affairs and everyday life through the eyes of a truly brilliant, worldly and wise young woman. Also, her voice is dreamy... Rainy Day Assembly is mostly Jillian Tully, a beautiful and talented singer-songwriter with a smoky liquid voice and a guitar named Taki. She sings the kind of songs that you listen to on headphones while getting weird about people you used to date. Bring a light pair of headphones and someone you used to date who doesn't mind you staring at them to get the full effect. Kenan Rubenstein is far too modest for his own good, but his lack of self-aggrandizement is our gain, because if he would admit that he was even half as good as he actually is, he could buy the Niagara several times over with the kind of label money that he would pull from just one demo. His style is moody and deep, with incredible finger-picked guitar and poetic excellent lyrics. And Bios For Our Featured DJs and MC: What can we say about Macabee and Verse, the minds behind It's Overture? They're master DJ's that light up every party they touch, their mash-ups are hot as hell and they're great people to boot. Check them out now before they get really big. 100DBs is a man of many talents, but his DJ mixes and original productions are really off the chain. He'll be bringing us the hottest and rarest hip-hop, dancehall and breaks for our delectation, and all you need to do to thank the nice man is dance and make some noise when his partner, MC Ryan O'Neil tells you to. Nefarious is all about the funk, and he has vowed on his bassbins to drop nothing but the funkiest house, drum n' bass and breaks to close out our evening. This is the man who's going to make you late for work on Friday the 19th. But Don't Forget Your Master Of Ceremonies : Voidstar Runner is on a break from his usual live electronic mayhem and his WRSU radio show while he's busy putting together his second album, but he will emerge from Void Studios on January 18th to preside over our evening's entertainment. Expect the unexpected. Hope to see you there, but if that's geographically or logistically impossible, spread the word to your NY peoples! |
